French language courses: what will you learn at the Beginner level?

If you are an absolute beginner, or you know some very basic French (like greetings and the odd word), or you are planning to go to France soon and you would to learn some French before you go, our Beginner courses are for you.

At the French Centre we offer two courses at Beginner level: Beginner 1 and Beginner 2, which provide a truly impressive start to your French speaking skills, and an excellent introduction to the culture and the country.

In the Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 courses you will learn how to greet people, introduce yourself, make appointments and invite people out, order in cafés and restaurants, find your way around, catch a train, buy things, ask for information, you will start learning how to hold conversations with people - therefore learning to speak in the present and how to talk about your experiences using the past tenses.

With the aid of visual resources we will visit several sites in Paris, including the Louvre, Notre-Dame, and le Quartier latin. We will visit the south of France. We will examine the life and films of one of France's most popular actors, Gérard Depardieu, and we will explore various aspects of French life, and cuisine.

The courses are fast and pacy, thorough and challenging, but also very enjoyable and rewarding, and it provides an excellent introduction to both the language, and the culture.
